Whitefly and drywood termite help for Clearwater homes
Sticky film on the patio table, white spirals under the palm fronds, a little pile of pellets under the bedroom window. Clearwater homes deal with whiteflies outside and drywood termites inside, and both need someone to look closely first.

Clearwater calls center on rugose spiraling whitefly in the landscaping and drywood termites in the house. UF/IFAS Pinellas Extension reported the whitefly spreading countywide on gumbo limbo, coconut palm and live oak, leaving honeydew and sooty mold. Drywood termites are worst in older coastal buildings, so we check the trim and attic as well as the yard.
Local conditions
Rugose whitefly and coastal drywood termites in Clearwater
Clearwater counted 117,292 residents in the 2020 census and serves as the seat of Pinellas County. Its yards are full of the plants rugose spiraling whitefly likes. UF/IFAS Pinellas Extension reported the pest spreading countywide on gumbo limbo, coconut palm, live oak and other hosts. The whiteflies lay eggs in white spiral patterns under the leaves and leave honeydew that grows black sooty mold on pavers, pool decks, cars and outdoor furniture. Treating the host plants stops the honeydew, and the mold weathers away over time.
Indoors, the West Indian drywood termite is the bigger worry. It has spread along Florida's coasts, does its worst damage in older buildings and lives entirely inside dry wood such as framing, furniture and boats, with no soil contact at all. Signs include small piles of six-sided pellets pushed out of 1 to 2 mm kick-out holes, and swarms mostly come from April to June. Nearly all whole-house fumigation in Florida targets this species. A localized colony can sometimes be spot treated instead, and an inspection tells you which way to go.

Clearwater whitefly and termite questions
What people in Clearwater ask us on the phone.
Ask us on the phoneThey are egg spirals left by rugose spiraling whitefly. The adults and young feed on the leaves and drip honeydew, which grows black sooty mold underneath.
Once the whiteflies on the plants above are controlled, the honeydew stops and the mold weathers or washes off over time.
They have spread along Florida's coasts and do the most damage in older buildings, so pellet piles in a Clearwater home are worth an inspection.
Not always. A single localized colony can be spot treated. Colonies spread through the framing or attic usually need fumigation.
Yes. We treat the host plants, keep product off the water and tell you how long to keep pets and swimmers off the deck while it dries.
